Between 2017 and 2018, Alessio collaborated with Italian choreographer Daniele Ninarello, creating and touring with the piece Still.
STILL IS THE GESTURE OF A COSTANT RETURN TO THE BODY.
It is a diagram, in whose centre you can find the theme of an articulated identity in its manifold sides and mutations, arranged in space as a figure of the time.The strength of this work lays in the deep investigation of the ways in which temporality unfolds along with the evolution of a unique self, capturing its transformations, dissolutions, and reconstructions until it becomes an abstract figure in the act of ascending | withstanding gravity. A subtle entity that evokes the Italian artist Giacometti, a“shadow in the evening” that advances in an unknown and disoriented direction, and passes through the existence with its fragile and the powerful anatomy.
How much energy do we need to withstand the fall and keep advancing? How much energy do we need to defend ourselves? How much to dismiss ourselves from the past? The figures sway sustained by the eye that looks at them, as they would lay on a weaving of sounds which are parts of them, retracing its course and extending its trajectory. In this acoustic magma, the bodies are fragmented in the constant pursuit of their centre, chasing an “elsewhere” that takes shape on the stage. Each body is much more than the sum of its parts.
The fragile identity of each being – a mixture of matter and memories – it is delineated as such. It proceeds between density and vacuum, motion and rest, equilibrium and its denial. It unfolds an archive of anatomical figures that manifest themselves through a subtle movement, to ultimately become vortex and pure dynamics. The scene seems to tell us that it is the movement that moves the bodies and not the contrary. It goes through them and arranges them in a profound alliance based on reciprocal listening. Only in this way things can have a beginning, somewhere in the unknown.
In this fragmentation, the figures take their place on stage, precisely where their essence is projected onto an “outside” and it becomes apparent volume. If movement is the time that takes shape, anatomy is the figure that walks through colour.
